The Finnish Club that was to grow into the present Finnish Society of Melbourne was founded in May 1958. The society has since offered Finns an opportunity to meet and speak their native language through our various events and activity groups.

The Red Robin Hosiery factory building on Pier Street, Altona, was purchased in 1971. It was renovated in countless working bees by tireless club members to make it a home for all Finns in Melbourne. Known now as the Finnish Hall. Various additions has been made over time, subsequently making it the site of the Finnish Library, Sauna, and Shop.
